Music Soundtracks

This weekend I was reading a friend's blog, and she highlighted a song that would be great for the main couple in one of her books. It made me laugh because it was one on my list for my novel soundtrack. Magic by Colbie Caillat.

It got me thinking how many of you set up soundtracks for your novels. I love my music like I've told you before. Me and my itunes are great friends. I set up soundtracks for each novel I'm working on. It helps me on some level identify with the feelings that the characters are going through. Sometimes I just love finding a song that fits the setting of a certain situation. The closer it fits the scene or scenario the more I love it. I love picking songs that are not on people's general radar. Here's one that I have for my current novel "The Gifted."

Freckles by Natasha Bedingfield

How many of the rest of you make soundtracks? and why?

I don't do much uploading other than on Youtube. Sorry. Also, I haven't made any soundtracks yet. Geesh! I'm useless, huh?

LOL! LOVE THIS SONG! And I'm a BIG playlist gal... Sometimes it's just a couple of songs over and over that really speak to me--other times it's like 20! hahahah!

Great song! Love me some Natasha. I'm glad you enjoyed the song I posted. It's funny we both have it on our lists:)

I have mood music, but I use Pandora. So I have certain channels that dredge up different moods. Colbie, Missy Higgins, and Ingrid Michaelson are my "happy/cute" mood. Evanescence gets me through the tense action scenes. Snow Patrol is for "sad" stuff. Etc.

giddy, I figured you would be a playlist gal.

Natalie, I just learned about Pandora yesterday. I'm going to have to check it out for when I'm writing. I haven't yet.

I have yet to make a soundtrack, but I think it's a really great idea. Music adds such power!

I create play lists for different moods in my writing. And sometimes different characters. It just depends.

This song is sweet! Thanks for sharing. :)

PJ, I agree about the power of music.

Glam, I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

I love music while I work...but I'm not organized enough to make a soundtrack. Doesn't really matter to me, because while I like the sound, I don't really end up listening to it, yanno? But I have a feeling I'd make one if I got a book pubb'd...that'd be cool to add to the website!

iTunes is EVIL AND HAUNTS ME.

*cough* O:)

It seriously plays the weirdest and most inappropriate songs when I least need to be distracted... thus, shuffle is evil.

lol

I do like to make playlists, but I always forget to actually, you know, put them on when writing. So... I mostly turn on my player, which is always on shuffle, and hit play and either enjoy the evil or rant at it. :P

I have a soundtrack for a book I've never even written! :) haha

beth, that'd be cool to have a playlist for a pubbed work. If only. All I need is the pubbed work.

Merc. I never put iTunes on Shuffle. I have such a wide variety of music on my iPod that it would totally throw me to let it just play at random. That's why I have playlists for so many different things depending on my mood etc.

Cortney, Maybe I should write a book for your playlist. haha!

From a girl with freckles ... you just helped me find my newest favorite song! What an awesome tune! I agree with you ... about the connection that music gives us to certain memories, thoughts, people, etc. I think it's such a great idea that you have songs that go with the books you're writing! Very cool!

Kelly, I'm so glad that you like Freckles. The first time I heard it I about died. I'm from a family full of freckled people. I love the message in it. It works well for my MC. She has freckles and never thought she was all that pretty.
