Our Nation's Capitol

I met with some friends over the weekend in DC and had a marvelous time. We have such a beautiful nation's capitol with some insane streets. Driving there was crazy but entertaining and possibly terrifying for my passengers.

Classical Architecture

Beautiful streetlamps and museums  (Smithsonian)

Colorful neighborhoods

Geometric patriotism  (FBI building)

Shining Monuments

Whenever you get the chance you should take advantage of it. It's an amazing place.

Wow, so fun. Great pictures. I really enjoyed DC the one time I went.

Thanks! I had so much fun not being rushed away from the pictures I wanted to take. The person with me also loved to take tons of pictures.

In all the times I've been, I still feel like I've only seen a small fraction of what there is to see.

I love DC. And you are very, very brave to drive there.

It is crazy driving all those one way streets and round-abouts and psycho DC drivers. Yikes! We survived though! Yea!

It is crazy driving!!!! I had so much fun with you! Your pictures are gorgeous! I really like the first and last ones. It is amazing that we can get such different pictures even standing next to each other!

Thanks for such a great time, Lois! I'm still reeling from how fun it was.

We did spend a lot of time focused on the monument didn't we? I may have to do a blog post on that one alone. I took so many pictures of it. Inside and out. Close up and far away.

It was fun, wasn't it? I just wish we had more time, but then there's life we have to live and all that.

Fabulous photos! I love them and it was so nice to meet you.

There is something really compelling about the Washington Monument. I have so many photos of it.

PJ, yes, the mystery is solved. Haha!

Alexa, It was lovely to meet you as well! I agree about the monument. It is very compelling, and I couldn't stop taking pictures of it from wherever we were. I even took pictures of the floor inside. I'm a nut.

Nice photos. They make DC seem like a ghost city.

Jenni, Thanks! I love traveling too.

Justus, It was during the work day and very cold outside so there weren't many people around.

Thanks! For that picture we saw the street while we were driving around and just had to stop and take pictures. What a find! The whole street was like a rainbow. So cool!

It is an amazing place . . . and so many of the attractions are free!

I remember thinking, on one of my prior visits, that they had a very good subway system--at least for my needs as a sort-of tourist. I wonder if that would hold up to further scrutiny.

As many times as I've been to Washington (not that many, really, but several) I've never made it to the Washington Monument. Believe it or not, I think it was being repaired or refurbished on one of my visits. I've been close enough to have pictures where it is the focal point in the background, but I've never been inside.

Now I want to go back.

Good pics. :)

Kelly and Karen, Thanks! DC is a very photogenic city.

Joe, This was my first time actually going into the monument as well. It was really cool. I took the capitol building picture from the window at the top of the monument. Good luck getting a trip back soon.
