Wednesday's Wonders--Electricity

The wind whipped through the enormous sycamore snapping branches into the power lines...

Or some such nonsense. Earlier today our electricity blinked on and off for about 10 minutes and then was gone. Nooooo! I had computer work to do. Plus, I hadn't posted, and there would be no more working online until the power came back. It effectively changed the nature of today's post. I began pondering the wonder that is electricity and what we're left to when it deserts us. My son even resorted to picking up a book. (Gasp! Maybe I should sabotage the fuse box sometime.)

So I've been cut short on my time for posting this lovely Wednesday afternoon, but, just so you know, I'm not taking my power for granted today.

I love power. I hate it when it's gone. So sad. This is one reason to have a good book supply on hand. Not e-books! :D

We had our power go out for almost six hours and we really didn't know what to do with each other. It's amazing how much we rely on electricity.

ah...forced old fashioned family time. One time when our power went out (and the kids were little) we made a fort under the kitchen table and got out the flashlights. It was such fun. Hey, maybe we should do that again sometime.

Ah, electricity is a beautiful thing, but it is nice to remember that life doesn't end when it goes out. I think it's great that it got your son to pick up a book!

It can be really fun when the power goes out for a little while. I love getting out the oil lamps and candles. I love the flickering light.

My kids love blackout ping pong. It's not much of a challenge though in the middle of the day.

I hate when our power goes out. I miss it when it's gone...though I do get some pretty decent reading done with the help of book lights. Sometimes the power going off can be a good thing, I suppose.

We recently had a force no internet weekend. I felt so disconnected from the outside-writerly world. But at the same time, I got so much done without the temptation of the interwebs. Sometimes it's good to be disconnected for a while.

The only time I get SERIOUSLY upset-like-inconsolable is when the power or air goes out. I hate being hot and not being able to check my e-mail. During Hurricane Rita a couple years ago, we had no power or air and I cried a lot. I dunno why-I just felt like I was in a foreign place and my house smelled different-I couldn't check my e-mail. The rest of my family was gone, and my environment made me feel really alone and far from home tho I was in my house. :)
