Friday's Photolife--Getting Close

One of the things I've noticed about people taking pictures is that they are often scared to get close.
It's a big mistake, especially when taking shots of people.
90% of the time close-ups are much better. Extreme close-ups can be fun, too.
You should try them, if you haven't. In this age of digital photography, it's easy to experiment.
Try animal close-ups, too.
Even if you have to use a zoom. Don't be scared. You'll be surprised at how much better your pictures are just by getting a little closer.
It works with everything. I love nature close-ups, too.
They usually say more than distance shots.
So who cares if your child says, "Mom, what the heck are you doing?" Do it anyway. You'll get some great pictures. Mine are so used to it that they don't ask any more.

Application to writing? Focus in on even the little details, things you wouldn't normally notice, unless you were very close up.

Mine never ask. lol! In fact, they were twirling in the living room the other day and my 4 year old son said, "Mom, you should take a picture of us. This is kind of cute." lol!

Nisa, Mine were a lot more accommodating when they were younger. Of course, some of them just love having their picture taken. It's really just one of them that complains.

They each have come with their own personalities! It's actually pretty fun to see. Both of mine are still young though, so I'm still discovering. :)

Did you take all these? They are fantastic.
I love the idea of getting close. I will see what I can do with it this weekend!

Yeah. I took all these. Those are my kids in the pictures. The one with the book is my daughter reading. She was the one wishing I'd leave her alone.

These are great. You really have an eye for fantastic shots

Any you are totally right about the application to writing. Good writing is in the details.

Great photos. I'm a horrible photographer so this is a great tip for me.

You need to have a good enough camera. Well, better than my 69.95 Wal Mart special, anyway. I like to blame it on the camera. If I get a good one, I have no excuse for my lousy pics. hehe

Still, this post is inspiring. I think I'll give it a try.

happy weekend :D

sarahjayne, thanks.

Patti, I hope it helps.

Tess, The camera does make a big difference and the lenses, too. I love my camera.

Tamika, Good luck with your writing.

So great! I love macro stuff, and even stuff that's not considered macro. Just close portrait shots are nice. Getting rid of extraneous sky and landscape can really help the focus. :D

You have so much fun with your camera. I need to experiment beyond my children...although I did get a great close-up of my daughter's ear the other day :)
